HYATT REGENCY – ONE OF THE BEST 5 STAR HOTEL IN LUCKNOW !
It was my parent’s anniversary on 8th June and we had a wonderful staycation at Hyatt Regency Lucknow. You would be wondering why we chose to stay in a luxury property in Lucknow which is my hometown. Because why not. Yes. It’s at walking distance from our home. We could have celebrated at home. But I wanted to do something special this year.
So I had cut short my Thailand trip and fly to Lucknow just in time to make it for this special anniversary celebration. I had planned and wanted to do Chiang Mai, Phuket, Bangkok, Phi Phi, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. But that can wait. This can’t! I visited only Chanthaburi and Pattaya in Thailand.
I believe, we all should do it for our parents! It’s worth it. I found it better than my selfish pursuit of non-stop travels. Very often, we wait till tomorrow.
- Someday, we will spend quality time with our parents!
- Someday, we will make our parents feel special!
- Someday, we will devote all our time for our parents!
- That someday never comes!
We become too occupied with our own kids, our horrible bosses, our booze parties, our romantic getaways, our social butterflyness, our hobbies. All this while, the parents wait. They patiently wait for you to spend some time with them. While we find excuses! It is all about priorities!
If we really want to make it happen, we will leave no stone unturned to make it happen. We will save money for special occasions, we will save leaves from office etc. I could have had an amazing South East Asia trip. I had been waiting for it since many years. But I deliberately chose to spend time with parents.
Many thanks to the Hyatt Regency Lucknow for making the anniversary celebrations of my parents memorable! I had informed them on prior about the anniversary and left the things to them. Even I was surprised when we entered the room. The entire room was decorated with rose petals in different designs and patterns, there were 2 cakes for us, one in the room and the other in the dining area.
The best part, they had arranged a lovely dinner in their Thai /Chinese award winning restaurant called Lukjin.
Lukjin was awarded the best Thai cuisine – Delicious Food Awards 2018 by Travel + Leisure. They had arranged for a candle light dinner, a specially curated menu and lots of ‘Happy Anniversary’ placards. Isn’t it a good idea to leave the job on the awesome staff at Hyatts and concentrate on celebrating your special moments with your loved ones.
When I posted about the same on social media, I was inundated with many queries on the Hyatt Regency, Lucknow. So, I am penning this detailed blog in order to make all the information available under one roof and save myself from repeating my words.
P.S.: We carried the left over cakes for our maids and friends back home. Because why throw away things when you can share and make someone happy. Because we are from the 90s. We don’t believe in wastage, eh! Not sounding posh? Please change your attitude!
THE ROOMS OF HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
We were staying in two rooms at Hyatt regency, Lucknow. One room for my parents and one for myself! The best part is that the hotel staff themselves assigned an interlinked room which means that we freely moved from one room to another without having to use keys. In fact, we left the interconnecting door open so that I could communicate easily with my parents and plan our next activities.
The rooms were well maintained, well appointed, spotless and lives upto the standards of a 5 star property. The rooms are spacious despite being a vertical property. Many different varieties of tea were stocked along-with the coffee and creamer etc.
The sofa and coffee table in each room were located next to the huge glass window and the bed. My parents loved reading newspapers on the sofa (which overlooks the city) every morning. And in the evenings we used to congregate at the table over tea and pakoras.
The option to control the temperature and different mood lighting were added bonus. What I loved the most was the master switch next to the bed which allows you to switch on and off all the lights at once. Many luxury properties still do not have this feature!
There were enough charging points across the room.
The huge mirror in the room, opposite the washroom area is useful for a final quick ‘Look test’ before you leave the room.
THE WASHROOM OF MY ROOM OF HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
The design of the washroom at Hyatt Regency, Lucknow is very different from most of the 5 star properties I have stayed at! The sliding door for the W.C area and shower area was built of glass. The washroom itself was separated from the room with a sliding wooden door. The washroom in the room has a nice walk in dressing room and wardrobe area. This section also has a platform to keep the luggage. The wardrobes could be used for hanging the reusable clothes. A large ironing board and iron was also placed at one corner. The many drawers were useful as well.
SUITES OF HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
The suites at Hyatt Regency, Lucknow has one bedroom connected to a living room. The washroom of suite is larger than the standard rooms and is divided into bathtrub area, shower, W.C. and washroom. The living room itself is quite spacious and useful for doing work or just chilling with your loved ones.
THE FOOD AND BEVERAGES AT HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
The food and beverages served at Hyatt regency, Lucknow is one of its strong USPs. Be it the signature dishes or the carefully curated dishes served in the restaurants of Hyatt Regency, Lucknow, each dish served here bursts with flavor and the right texture.
From bold flavours to subtle dishes, there is something for everyone here! Let’s check out the highlights from each restaurant:
Rocca
Rocca at Hyatt Regency, Lucknow is the lively restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Known for its lavish buffets, you will find something for everyone here. In fact so many dishes are served here that it is impossible to sample all dishes in one sitting. For someone with a low appetite like myself and my parents, we first checked out all the dishes and then picked up the ones which appealed to us.
I particularly loved the Baghare Baingan. It is a star dish, at least for me. And no one makes it like their chefs do! They follow the recipe which was patronized by the Nawabs (Royals) of Lucknow. Slightly Sweet and sour (jaggery and tamarind), I make sure that I eat the Baghare Baingan (aubergine) everytime I am at Hyatt Regency, Lucknow.
I had tasted it for the first time when I stayed at Hyatt Regency, Lucknow at the end of the multi-city Uttar Pradesh Writers Conclave organized by Lonely Planet Magazine India and Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department.
Their languorous Brunch menu is lavish and starts at 1 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. every Sunday. It is very popular amongst the local walk-ins as well as the resident guests. From the main course, I immensely enjoyed the mezze platter (also served at breakfast), the paneer kofta etc. Being a vegetarian, I strictly stuck to vegetarian dishes.
The wood fired pizzas and pastas are served here all day. They even have a noodles bar. The dessert selection is impressive. I particularly loved baked yoghurt with passion fruit, baked gulab jamun and tiramisu.
My favourite is the sumptuous breakfast which is served daily at Hyatt Regency, Lucknow. Be it the poha, idli, Mendu vada, Utthapam, Aalu and Paneer parathas or upma, khasta and jalebi-dahi, I love their Indian selection. I love the fact that they have a representation of many different regions of India. I was surprised to eat an authentic misal pao in the breakfast buffet. It is not easy to find this favourite Maharashtrian dish of mine in Lucknow. I was much delighted to see an authentic Maharashtrian Pao which is supposed to be bland and coarse in texture.
In most of the restaurants and take aways outside of Maharashtra, I have been disappointed at the sweet bun which they pass off as pao. It was for the first time, that I had sampled a real Maharastrian pao in North India.
Fresh juices, cheese platter, salads, cut fruits, mezze platter etc are also served in the breakfast buffet!
Alcohol is also served here on request!
Lukjin:
We had celebrated my parent’s anniversary at their award winning restaurant Lukjin. We were pleasantly surprised to see that our reserved table had special arrangements.
Candle lights, placards with happy Anniversary messages and even a special anniversary cake was served to us even without my request. Not many properties understand that these small gestures make a big difference to the overall guest experience. They made our special occasion special.
Lukjin is named after the Chinese immigrant population who have been living in Thailand since centuries now. Needless to say, the menu and décor of Lukjin restaurant at Hyatt regency, Lucknow reflects a mix of Chinese and Thai themes.
I particularly loved the dimsum basket served at Lukjin. The Japanese wanton stuffed with edamame bean and the wantons with activated charcoals were clear winners. I particularly loved the Green Thai curry and a chestnut based Chinese dish served with steamed rice and hakka noodles respectively.
I was just back from Thailand and was regretting that I forgot to sample the popular Thai dessert Mango with Sticky Rice. As if reading my mind, they served me a Mango with Sticky Rice.
I was impressed with the authentic flavours and the stunning presentation. I now know where to go for my Mango with Sticky Rice fix near my home.
The Penthouse:
The penthouse is a casual al-fresco bar area perched on the top of the Hyatt Regency, Lucknow. Offering splendid views of Lucknow, especially those of the newly built High Court and Indira Habitat Centre, the Penthouse has a chilled out aura to it.
It is a quiet, understated and charming place which I imagined must be even more lovely during the winters.
UP’s
First things first! I loved their cocktails. Inspired from local flavours, their cocktails and mocktails are a class apart and unlike anything I had tasted before. On each table, a holder with cards is placed. Each card is illustrated with quirky, bizarre and fun motifs. Even the names of the drinks are no less extraordinary.
Some of the cocktails names served at UP’s are Kakori Mary, Revari Espresso, The Nawabi Swag, Kankawa, Badnam Milk, Pauwa Chakhna, Malihabadi.
All the cocktails and mocktails served here are inspired by the theme of UP aka Uttar Pradesh, the northern state of India. What stood out was the star cocktail called – Bareilly Ka Jhumka.
The presentation of the drink was amazing. It came with a real jhumka (earring) attached to the drink. Based of jamun (jambol), it tasted great and left me craving for more.
The décor, theme of Up’s is also inspired by the elements of Uttar Pradesh.
THE SERVICE AT HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
Even before we check in at the Hyatt Regency, Lucknow, we were asked about our preferences on an email. This included details like our diet pattern, favourite newspaper etc! All the staff at the hotel were very courteous, had good knowledge about the products and service and always wore a genuine smile!
OTHER AMENITIES OF HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
As soon as you enter Hyatt regency, Lucknow, on your left a small in-house store sells Lucknow themed souvenirs and quick eats. Their small but cozy reception is inviting. What I noticed and liked is that instead of stocking bottled water at the reception for guests, they had arranged for filtered water and glass tumblers. This eco friendly practice is rare to find at 5 star properties.
Since it is a vertically designed building, so most of the facilities are arranged floor wise as per the themes. For example, all the boardrooms and meeting rooms are on one floor, all the restaurants and bars (Except The Penthouse) are on another floor and Spa and Swimming Pool are on another floor. It makes it easy to navigate through the hotel.
Throughout the property you will observe décor inspired by Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh. For example, framed Benarasi Saris motifs (Different part of saris stitched together) can be seen on all the floors. You can find many coffee table books on Uttar Pradesh in UP’s Bar. Also, many furniture pieces inspired by Uttar Pradesh can also be seen here.
LOCATION OF HYATT REGENCY, LUCKNOW
Hyatt Regency, Lucknow is located at one of the most salubrious locations of Lucknow. It is at a walking distance from the Indira Habitat Center, the newly built (and much talked about) High Court and the Wave Mall. It is also close to many restaurants, cafes, movie halls, more malls etc. The Shaheed Path (via road) or the Indira Nagar Metro Station has a direct connection to the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at Amausi, Lucknow. It is also easily reachable from Charbagh Railway Station. You can also visit the nearby Bhoothnath market if you want to sample local Chats or do last minute Chikan shopping.
