LADDER CLIMBING WITH CORBETT WILD IRIS RESORT AND SPA

Ladder Climbing:

When I and my blogger friends were taken to a tall ladder, I was not very apprehensive to attempt it. “Climbing on a ladder, eh, that’s easy!” Except that the ladder was a dangling one and hung on a huge tree. When I understood the dynamics of the game, my over confidence dipped in a jiffy.

I let the thinner amongst us (Well, all of them actually!) attempt it before I did. But even my master plan didn’t help me much when I attempted it myself. As soon as I stepped on first few steps on the wooden ladders, it started swaying violently and the lower part of my body struggled to align itself with my back. It instantly reminded me of my failed attempt to climb a banyan tree through its dangling roots in Daman many moons back.

Me after the victory!

I finally found my groove when the instructor shouted at me, much like those adventure reality shows, “Keep your back straight and always keep both the arms above your head.” This trick helped but it still did not make pulling my body vertically any easier. After I finished the Everest Base Camp Trek in October 2015 and shifted to Delhi (after 7 years in Mumbai) in November 2016, I put on an unprecedented amount of weight which I am determined to shed off soon so that I can continue with my flirt with adventure sports.

An upwardly mobile me!

As I sweated while climbing up the ladder, I cursed myself for putting on so much lard on my body and promised to kill the kilos soon. At one point of time, I wanted to give up. But I have never deserted any adventure sport halfway, no matter how difficult or risky it is. I would have been grumpy and unhappy if I set a wrong trend for myself this one time.  So come what may, I finished the climb and got down triumphantly slightly hating and loving myself. Never mind, the next adventure sport in the line up was easy and therapeutic. At least, it made me feel good about myself.
