Famous Places for Local Street Shopping in Jaipur

Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’, is one of India’s most popular tourist destinations. Nestled in the lap of the Aravalli range, the city is known for its ancient and magnificent splendour. But its history is not limited to its monuments. While there is no dearth of exciting things to do in Jaipur, one of the most enjoyable activities is shopping in the city’s markets and bazaars.

Situated in the heart of the city, these bazaars stand testament to the beauty of this city. If you are fond of street-shopping, Jaipur will be a paradise like no other. Famous for its gemstones, jewellery, bangles, carpets, and blue pottery, the bazaars attract travellers from across the world who search high and low for souvenirs to take back home. 1) Johari Bazaar

Jaipur’s reputation as a treasure trove of gemstones and jewellery is well-earned. There is no better place to hunt for them than in the famous Johari Bazaar. Emeralds, sapphires, pearls, and rubies – gems of all types and sizes –can be found here. You’ll find delicate handcrafted pieces of stone jewellery made in the traditional style, and also gems sold loose. The ever-popular Kundan jewellery is sold here too.

Speciality: Precious gemstones, semi-precious jewellery, and handcrafted pieces.

2) Tripolia Bazaar

Tripolia Bazaar is famous for its ‘lac’ jewellery, which is unique to Jaipur. The beautiful variety of lac bangles makes this bazaar a must-visit street shopping destination in the city. Beautiful carpets made in the Indo-Hieratic style with motifs from nature, landscapes, and mythology can be found here. The market is also famous for its bandhani clothing, the traditional style of the state. If you’re looking for decoration pieces for your home, Jaipur’s famous blue pottery or antiques sold here can really jazz up your living room.

Speciality: Lac jewellery, carpets, antiques, and homeware.

Open: Monday to Saturday

3) Chandpole Bazaar

Chandpole Bazaar is one of the oldest markets in the city, and carries on hoary traditions with pride. Marble, stone, and wood handicrafts, all made in the Rajasthani folk style, can be seen on sale here. At Khazanewalon ka Rasta, you can purchase fashionable juttis, handicrafts, carpets, marble/wood statues, and even turbans – anything your heart may desire.

Speciality: Items made from marble, stone, and wood.

Timings: 11 am onward
