The travel blog includes details on game drives aka safari in Uganda. I saw a lot of wildlife within few days of my game drives in various National Parks of Uganda. The Gorilla Trek at the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was the best thing about Uganda. And what a debut it was! I am glad it happened with Uganda, the pearl of Africa. One of the most stable nations of Africa, Uganda won my heart with its immense diversity, easy availability of Indian vegetarian and <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2018\/10\/21\/vegan-and-vegetarian-guide-to-local-food-of-offbeat-raipur-in-chattisgarh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vegan food<\/a>, super friendly people and of course, the stunning <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/11\/21\/in-search-of-one-horned-rhinoceros-other-wildlife-in-chitwan-national-park-naturally-nepal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wildlife<\/a>. I can keep coming back to Uganda again and again. Uganda, Africa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_ALMOST_DIDN%E2%80%99T_MAKE_IT_TO_UGANDA\"><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">I ALMOST DIDN\u2019T MAKE IT TO UGANDA!<\/span> <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, when I was invited on a media trip by <a href=\"https:\/\/newdelhi.mofa.go.ug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Consulate of Uganda in Mumbai<\/a>, I took it up after initially expressing concern over my recently burnt fingers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo, you can\u2019t go to Africa with these fingers. Isn\u2019t your life more important?\u201d, said the doctor after looking at my fingers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13603\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/masai-tribe-dance-uganda-africa-21.jpg\" alt=\"Masai Tribe Dance Uganda Africa (21)\" class=\"wp-image-13603\"\/><figcaption>Dances from Uganda, Africa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I was shattered as Africa had been my dream destination since eternity. I could see my dream going away from me, especially the gorillas. I politely said no to Uganda, much against my wish but Vishal, Vice Counselor of Uganda convinced me to come. I took a chance, got my fill of medicines and joined the trip. I am glad I made it to Uganda. It will always be special to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been 2 months since I burnt my fingers (because I am a perennial disaster in kitchen!) and I am still eating food after sticking a spoon between my middle finger and index finger. There are many Indians living in Uganda. 25,000 someone told me. One of my childhood friends Preeti Singh who was a former Mrs. India is one of them. She lives near the Source of Nile in Jinja before living in Kampala. She told me, <em>\u201cI have lived in other African countries but I prefer living in Uganda. There is peace, less traffic and pollution here. Indian Film Industry Delegation had come for a recce to scout for ideal locations so that they could feature Uganda in Indian films or advertisements. But who\u2019s complaining? The picturesque road from Entebbe to Kampala was worth the hour long drive during my return. As soon as we started to descend from the aircraft, the enormity of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kideponationalpark.com\/information\/flights-to-kidepo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kidepo National Park<\/a> had me agape mouthed. The setting sun added to its allure. Uganda, Africa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As we moved from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kidepo_Airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kidepo airport<\/a> (the smallest airport I have seen!) to the safari lodge, we passed through the real <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/22\/my-first-tiger-safari-budget-trip-to-bandhavgarh-national-park-madhya-pradesh-incredible-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Park<\/a> as unlike India most of the hotels, luxury lodges and tents are pitched right in the middle of the National Park. Jackals, different types of antelopes and deers vied for my attention. It was almost dark. I tried hard to be patient till next morning!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13626\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/wild-elephant-kidepo-national-park-uganda-africa-9.jpg\" alt=\"Wild Elephant Kidepo National Park Uganda Africa (9)\" class=\"wp-image-13626\"\/><figcaption>We saw a huge herd of African Elephants. Dinner was followed by a livewire cultural performance by the local people in the night! Some of us also stayed there while I along-with 2 more co travelers moved to a tent in the middle of the jungle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">I imagined that the lion was knocking at the tent. My jeep included the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=J9eqjdzugU4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bahubali<\/a> producers team, Sumit and Robert. The morning Game drive had us in splits. Zebras, elephants, giraffes, wild buffaloes, antelopes, huge hornbills, huge monitor lizards etc made appearance one after the another. And when we lost all hope, we saw an adult male lion, chilling in the bushes. It was very exciting and thrilling to be in the middle of a real African village. We did the 4 hour long Gorilla Trek in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It was thrilling to say the least. You can see Gorilla in wild in only three nations. Uganda offers the most pocket friendly Gorilla treks. Uganda is also a very stable nation, therefore all the conservation efforts by Uganda have shown positive results. A trip to Uganda without Gorilla trek is incomplete. Queen Elizabeth National Park is also famed for <strong>the popular \u2018Lions living on a tree\u2019. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13600\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/lion-kidepo-national-park-uganda-africa-4.jpg\" alt=\"Lion Kidepo National Park Uganda Africa (4)\" class=\"wp-image-13600\"\/><figcaption>The lion we saw. We saw many schools of Hippopotamuses<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also visited the very interesting Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara and the equator. Being a science buff, the equator was very exciting for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13613\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/people-equator-uganda-africa-18.jpg\" alt=\"People Equator Uganda Africa (18)\" class=\"wp-image-13613\"\/><figcaption>The entire team at Equator. The Indian Film Industry bigwigs spoke on the Uganda and India ties and how Uganda can be promoted in <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2019\/07\/28\/top-22-things-to-do-in-goa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">India <\/a>via various mediums such as films, advertisements, videos and blogs. We also enjoyed a superb dance and song performance by African artists. It was a much needed break after roughing it out in the wilderness of Uganda for days. Anyways, it was my first meeting with the head of any state. We had a long meaningful discussion with the Ugandan President His Excellency Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. It is a commonly known fact that Uganda was an unstable nation during the tumultuous times when Idi Amin was the president. I was excited to see large groups of Hippopotamuses and <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2019\/07\/25\/udawalawe-national-park-safari-in-sri-lanka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elephants <\/a>from the <strong>Mil<\/strong> <strong>MI-17 helicopter<\/strong>. We ditched the game drive \/ safari and opted for the <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/09\/16\/exciting-entertainment-options-aboard-the-majestic-princess-of-the-princess-cruises-with-cruise-professionals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cruise<\/a> till the breathtaking Murchinson Falls. En route we saw scores of hippopotamuses, hippopotamuses with kids, elephants, huge Crocodiles, migratory birds etc, baboons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13609\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/nile-crocodile-murchinson-national-park-uganda-africa-26.jpg\" alt=\"Nile Crocodile Murchinson National Park Uganda Africa (26)\" class=\"wp-image-13609\"\/><figcaption>Nile Crocodile. It was an impressive bus with seating facilities in the front and space for health check-ups. Many women in Uganda have benefitted from this mobile mammography van which helps detect breast cancer. It was also appreciated by Bollywood star Mr. Sunil Shetty. The impressive bus has a mammography machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13617\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/uganda-africa-30.jpg\" alt=\"Uganda Africa (30)\" class=\"wp-image-13617\"\/><figcaption>The team with the Hope Express bus. He is also the co-founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samtafoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samta Foundation<\/a> and vice chairman and co founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajantapharma.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ajanta Pharma Limited<\/a> \u2013Indian multinational speciality pharmaceutical company. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13612\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"614\" height=\"922\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/people-equator-uganda-africa-17.jpg\" alt=\"People Equator Uganda Africa (17)\" class=\"wp-image-13612\"\/><figcaption>People of Uganda. To put things in perspective, 4 out of 100 Ugandan women suffer from breast cancer. Hence the Hope Express has really helped combat the situation and true to the slogan of Hope Express, they \u2018Detect Early Save Life\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13610\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/nile-river-uganda-africa-35.jpg\" alt=\"Nile River Uganda Africa (35)\" class=\"wp-image-13610\"\/><figcaption>The surreal Nile River. Africa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We later had a sumptuous local and Indian lunch at the Jinja Sailing Club, owned by Mr. Mayur Madhwani, husband of yesteryears\u2019 superstar Mrs. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mumtaz_(actress)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mumtaz Madhwani<\/a>, fondly called just Mumtaz by fans!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We then drove to the source of Nile and were back to Kampala by evening. I was surprised to see the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the entrance of the \u2018Source of Nile\u2019 Befuddled at the Gandhi connection, I was told that a part of his mortal remains (ashes) were immersed at the source of Nile in 1948. Neither did I have any idea that Nile, one of the most well known rivers in the world, has its source in Uganda. It was a day of surprises. Who would have thought! In the evening, we had meeting with the Tourism minister of Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone size-full wp-image-13596\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/kidepo-national-park-jeep-uganda-africa-3.jpg\" alt=\"Kidepo National Park Jeep Uganda Africa (3)\" class=\"wp-image-13596\"\/><figcaption>Game Drive Jeep. That said, you can still see the best of Uganda in an 8 days long itinerary. Whether it\u2019s the abundant wildlife, or the <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/10\/indra-jatra-feestival-when-kumari-the-living-goddess-of-nepal-visits-streets-of-kathmandu-on-chariot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vibrant culture<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/11\/25\/shore-temples-deepest-mysteries-and-other-mind-boggling-facts-incredible-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">history<\/a>, or food and the impressive landscapes, Uganda will make it difficult for you to find flaws in the country. It is a great destination when you <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/11\/28\/offbeat-break-from-mumbai-pune-road-trip-to-turtle-festivalvelas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">travel with friends<\/a>, family or even solo.
