activities and sports organized by the Pushkar fair committee. The brochure which I picked up has a list of programmed scheduled to be held such as the <em><strong>kabaddi<\/strong> <\/em>match, the milking session, the camel race etc. but not a single program started at the time mentioned on the brochure resulting in me missing many events. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10574\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-10574 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5234.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5234\" width=\"614\" height=\"922\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Foreigners won the <em>&#8216;matki fod&#8217;<\/em> competition. Starting with <em><strong>\u2018Matki-fod\u2019<\/strong> <\/em>(Break the pot) , two teams were formed on voluntary basis, one comprised of Indians (locals) and the other an eclectic mix of men from different nationalities. So we had an <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/08\/6-popular-attractions-in-utah-u-s-a-for-great-outdoors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American<\/a>, A Spanish, a <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/01\/31\/10-reasons-why-you-should-visit-tokyo-wonderland-before-olympicsparalympics-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japanese<\/a>, an <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/12\/top-ten-reasons-to-visit-canberra-capital-of-australia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australian<\/a> etc. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10573\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10573\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-10573 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5219.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5219\" width=\"614\" height=\"922\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10573\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A local woman watching the games at the stadium. The game was simple: Form a <strong>human pyramid<\/strong> and break the <em>matki.<\/em> The team which breaks first is the winner! Few rounds of practice was allowed to rehearse the same as for most it was a first time activity and most had <strong>volunteered to participate<\/strong> on a whim. That\u2019s the <strong>spirit of Pushkar<\/strong> fair! Somehow, I was sure that the Indian team would bag the prize, but surprisingly the <strong>foreigners won the game<\/strong> by a whisker. The Pushkar twist here is that they will have a large <strong>water filled clay pot<\/strong> on their head while they ran. On reaching the finishing line, the contestants have to remove the pot from the head and break on the dusty ground. Whoever does it first wins! The <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/07\/02\/mygrationstory-of-a-filipino-living-in-dubai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">foreign woman<\/a> who won could contain herself and was delirious with joy. What fueled her excitement was a <strong>news channel<\/strong> who interviewed her with platitudes like, \u201cHow do you feel?\u201d to which she replied animatedly. So want your proverbial <strong>15 minutes of fame<\/strong>. Pushkar fair, Rajasthan, Incredible India!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"LAGAAN_STYLE_MATCH_ANYONE\"><\/span><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\"><em>LAGAAN<\/em> STYLE MATCH, ANYONE?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>I also got to see a <em>kabaddi<\/em> match and a <strong>hockey match<\/strong> involving the locals and foreigners. It is this involvement with local culture and a heady mix of <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/05\/04\/ziplining-at-jim-corbett-national-park-yes-its-possible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">activities<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/21\/a-locals-guide-to-best-vegan-food-in-vadodara-in-budget-gujarat-incredible-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food<\/a>, shows, <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/10\/13\/naropa-festival-kumbh-mela-of-the-himalaya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">performances<\/a>, shopping and the bizarreness and quirkiness of it all that attracts foreigner traveller.All this at a shoestring budget! No wonder some tourists return to the fair like <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/12\/17\/offbeat-gujarat-solo-travel-to-nal-sarovar-bird-sanctuary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">migratory birds<\/a> year after year! They were entertained by a family of four locals dressed in traditional attire. They would do an impromptu jig seducing the old couple to dole out the money. More money\u2026and then some more money\u2026This couple was sweet enough to <strong>keep a smile on their face despite being conned<\/strong> (and they knew they were being conned) but they actually enjoyed the private interaction with the locals. There were foreign women dressed up as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/12\/19\/mygration-story-what-is-this-young-delhi-girl-doing-in-the-remote-village-of-madhya-pradesh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indian village<\/a> belles. <\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9952\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9952\" style=\"width: 992px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9952\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/img_3654.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3654\" width=\"992\" height=\"589\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9952\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/strong> <strong>Women from different nations competing in the best Indian Bride competition. Pushkar fair, Rajasthan, Incredible India!<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h1><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FOREIGNERS_DRESSING_AS_INDIAN_BRIDE_IS_A_RAGE\"><\/span><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\">FOREIGNERS DRESSING AS INDIAN BRIDE IS A RAGE!<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>One of them was sitting pretty in a camel cart complete with bridal frills such as flowers, decoration and a <strong><em>ghoonghat<\/em><\/strong>. <em>Ghoonghat<\/em> is a veil worn by <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/03\/24\/mygrationsw-why-this-brave-woman-lives-alone-in-a-forest-in-mukteshwar-uttarakhand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North Indian women <\/a>to cover their face. And I have observed the more an Indian woman covers up, more shy she is! Especially the way people dress up in <strong>traditional attire with bizzare ornaments.<\/strong> Picture this: Bangles which cover every inch of the arm making them look like as if they are wearing a water tumbler. I started shooting some of them in the stadium grounds. Once done, turned out they were charging to pose as models. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10570\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10570\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5177.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5177\" width=\"614\" height=\"922\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The local woman who doubled as a model. Amused, I didn\u2019t mind it as their fees ranged between a throw away Rs.30 \u2013 Rs.50. The more pictures you click and the more you waste their time, so more the fees. <strong>The foreigners had it tougher.<\/strong> They had to dole out much more money than what I did. Pushkar fair, Rajasthan, Incredible India!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>So, I was amused observing them being stuck in this <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/12\/16\/travel-gone-wrong-when-i-was-stranded-in-pitch-dark-in-rural-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>sticky situation.<\/strong> <\/a>But once you pay them, they\u2019ll give you good results.
