Shops selling handicrafts, spices, religious things, ethnic clothes etc. inundate the streets. Also on sale were the beautiful but incongruous <strong>posters of The Pink Floyd, Elvis<\/strong> etc priced obscenely at Rs.5,000\/-, Rs.6,000\/-. Incredible India!&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>Brahma Temple of Pushkar is much revered amongst the pilgrims and it is of much importance as it is <strong>one of the few temples dedicated solely to the Lord Brahma,<\/strong> credited in the Hindu mythology with the <strong>creation of the world.<\/strong> The temple is believed to be 2000 years old though the present building dates back to 14th century.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10108\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10108\" style=\"width: 922px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10108\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5156.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5156\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local women. Incredible India!&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span><strong>International Business Times<\/strong> has identified Pushkar Lake and the Brahma temple as one of the ten most religious places in the world and one of the five sacred pilgrimage places for the Hindus, in India. Being an atheist and more of a believer of the Big Bang Story, I skipped visiting the temple. The overflowing crowd and a no camera, no bags policy were the other deterrents. But I strongly recommend a visit to this remarkable pilgrim site, important from both historical and mythological perspective. I just saw the outer fa\u00e7ade of the temple and rushed to Ajmer for my overnight <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/12\/17\/offbeat-gujarat-solo-travel-to-nal-sarovar-bird-sanctuary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">solo budget trip<\/a><\/strong> via bus to <strong>Udaipur<\/strong>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<h1 class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"PUSHKAR_LAKE_AKA_PUSHKAR_SAROVAR\"><\/span><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\">PUSHKAR LAKE AKA PUSHKAR SAROVAR<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>Absorbed in the festival activities, I had almost forgotten that Pushkar is better known for being a pilgrim site. Being an atheist, I kept postponing exploring this aspect of Pushkar. So on the last day, I knew I had to do it. So I rushed to the famous Pushkar lake aka Pushkar sarovar. It is a <strong>very important site for Hindu<\/strong> pilgrims. Pushkar lake may remind you of the <strong>ghats of Varanasi.<\/strong> This lake has more than 50 ghats where believers congregate to have a holy dip, in the hope of rinsing themselves of all their sins. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10113\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10113\" style=\"width: 922px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10113\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5396.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5396\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10113\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pushkar Lake aka Pushkar Sarovar. Incredible India!&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>During Pushkar fair,the lake sees maximum influx of people as it is considered auspicious in Hindu mythology to have a <strong>holy dip during Karthik Poornima<\/strong>, which generally falls in October-November. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10109\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10109\" style=\"width: 922px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10109\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5164.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5164\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local women in the mela ground. Pushkar fair falls around the same time when <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/12\/10\/offbeat-goa-unique-boat-festival-during-tripurari-poornima-aka-dev-deepawali\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dev Deepawali<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/11\/08\/north-goa-your-quick-easy-guide-in-to-the-heart-of-indias-party-capital-plus-an-itinerary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Goa<\/a><\/strong> and Varanasi takes place with enthusiasm. It is a lesser known secret of Varanasi where the ghats magically come alive with thousands of lit <strong><em>\u2018diyas\u2019<\/em><\/strong> (earthen lamps), chanting of hymns and mantras and a <strong><em>\u2018Maha aarti\u2019.<\/em> <\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10101\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10101\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-10101 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_3563.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3563\" width=\"614\" height=\"922\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dragon Rides. Incredible India!&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>It was disturbing to know that once <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/18\/a-tiger-free-wildlife-safari-to-satpura-national-park-madhya-pradesh-incredible-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>crocodiles roamed the lake<\/strong><\/a> and devoured the pilgrims. Before much damage the British captured them and rehabilitated the crocs. Today the only wildlife you get to see here is fish in the shallow water and a huge number of pigeons. Photography is strictly prohibited here because often some <strong>women go topless<\/strong> (mostly older) while bathing here. I got to learn this while I had already taken some pictures. A man with authoritative stance accosted me for using my camera on the ghats. It was only when I expressed ignorance and showed him the pictures I had clicked, was I and my expensive camera spared! Perhaps, since I was <strong>traveling solo,<\/strong> I was zeroed in on. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10115\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10115\" style=\"width: 904px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10115\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5402.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5402\" width=\"904\" height=\"576\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10115\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Massage parlor signboard. Incredible India!&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>As I exited the Pushkar lake, I came across <strong>massage parlors.<\/strong> I remember one dubious looking \u2018Chandra Massage\u2019 The kitschy promotional banner outside had a sad looking white pigeon (or was it a duck? Or was it a cross between pigeon and a duck?) spreading its wings wide the way Indian superstar <strong>Shah Rukh Khan<\/strong> spreads open his arms and claiming \u201cChandra Massage <strong>READY TO FLY \u2026.COME ONCE\u2026..MUST TRY&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.\u201d<\/strong> It looked dubious and I had one more opportunity to say, \u2018No thanks\u2019 in this city.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10114\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10114\" style=\"width: 922px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10114\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5397.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5397\" width=\"922\" height=\"614\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10114\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pushkar Lake aka Pushkar Sarovar. Incredible India!&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<h1 class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"OLD_RANGJI_TEMPLE_PUSHKAR\"><\/span><span><span style=\"color:#ff9900;\">OLD RANGJI TEMPLE, PUSHKAR<\/span> <\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><span>I quickly moved to the last stop, <strong>Old Rangji Temple.<\/strong> Established in 1844, the temple indeed looked ancient. It has a huge campus with a temple in the center. I arrived at around 15:45 hrs. The temple still being closed, I took off my slippers outside the temple and started taking a round of the campus and admiring the temple from the outside. It has some beautiful paintings in the Rajpoot style depicting <strong>Lord Krishna<\/strong>, his consorts aka <em>gopis<\/em> and animal motifs such as <strong>peacock, cows, elephants, lions and <\/strong>other<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/10\/22\/my-first-tiger-safari-budget-trip-to-bandhavgarh-national-park-madhya-pradesh-incredible-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wildlife of India<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10112\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10112\" style=\"width: 773px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10112\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5392.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5392\" width=\"773\" height=\"614\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10112\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Old Rangji Temple. I was still in the campus when a super angry pujari (priest) stood up , pointed fingers at me and screamed at me at the top of his voice, \u201cNO CAMERAS\u2026PUT THE CAMERA INSIDE\u2026NOW!!!!!!!\u201d He was shivering in rage. It was straight out of Indian epics such as <strong>Mahabharata<\/strong> and <strong>Ramayana<\/strong> where holy men give \u2018shraaps\u2019 aka curses to the offenders and sinners at their whims and fancy. Upset at the way he shouted at me, and scared if he would turn me into one of the peacocks on the walls, I put my camera in my bag and walked towards the shoe rack. And where the hell are my slippers? Turned out my slippers were literally and unceremoniously thrown out of the temple (in spite of me keeping them at designated place, sigh!). One slipper in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2017\/04\/05\/offbeat-weekend-break-from-delhi-village-walk-to-kafura-in-mukteshwar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">north<\/a>,<\/strong> the other in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/2016\/08\/30\/quick-guide-on-offbeat-fort-kochi-things-to-do-in-one-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">south<\/a>.<\/strong> <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10111\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10111\" style=\"width: 614px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10111\" src=\"http:\/\/asoulwindow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/img_5390.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5390\" width=\"614\" height=\"922\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Old Rangji Temple. Told you God and me were never meant to be on amiable terms.
