The serene village of Guniyalekh near Mukteshwar, hides many secrets, the best one of which is The Chamomile Estate. This tastefully done up luxurious boutique retreat in Mukteshwar beautifully blends comfort, nature, and exclusivity. My friends from Mumbai joined me in Delhi and we impulsively booked a stay at this beautiful luxury hotel in Mukteshwar. Here is my detailed review of The Chamomile Estate, based on my stay experience here!
Surrounded by dense pine, oak, and rhododendron forests, the estate offers breathtaking panoramic views of the mighty Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Nanda Kot. According to my stay experience at the Chamomile Estate, what makes this luxury accommodation truly special is its peaceful location, far away from the touristy bustle of Nainital and yet so close to umpteen tourist attractions. Me and my friends experienced the authentic charm of the Kumaon hills without breaking the bank. I personally found The Chamomile Estate to be one of the best boutique luxury resorts in Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand.

Why I chose to stay at The Chamomile Estate?
My friends Rahul, Sneha and their son Bunny, flew all the way from Mumbai to New Delhi because they wanted to see Jim Corbett National Park. I advised them to stay at both Chamomile Estate in Mukteshwar and The Golden Tusk in Jim Corbett, both of which are excellent luxury properties managed by the same team of Ivory Destinations. Initially hesitant, they agreed upon the idea and thanked me later when they had a good stay and delicious food at both the places. The best part is that both the properties are located merely 3 hours of peaceful drive away from each other. The cherry on the cake is the fact that the roads are excellent in this region. Read The Golden Tusk review on my blog.
The reason I and my friends from Mumbai chose to stay at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, is because it lies far away from the touristy bustle and crowded belts of the popular Kumaon region in Uttarakhand. Despite its secluded location, it is located conveniently just about two hours from major attractions like Nainital, Bhimtal, Sattal, Kainchi Dham, and even Almora.
This makes it a perfect base to explore the region while staying away from the chaos, traffic, and noise that often accompany popular hill stations. Nestled in a quiet, lesser-known Guniyalekh village in Mukteshwar, The Chamomile Estate feels like a gentle cocoon — a place where peace, stillness, and healing naturally unfold.

Facilities at The Chamomile Estate

You can enjoy multi-cuisine dining with a special tea-tasting menu at the in-house restaurant, or unwind in the jacuzzi and steam rooms for complete relaxation. For recreation, there are plenty of indoor games like table tennis, carrom, and various board games, while kids can have their share of fun at the play zone equipped with a ball pit, storybooks, and arts and crafts activities.
The sprawling lawn provides the perfect space to soak in the mountain air, and the two common lounges with fireplaces make for cozy gatherings on chilly evenings. The property ensures road connectivity, complimentary Wi-Fi, and convenient access for all ages, making it ideal for families, couples, and groups alike. Whether you seek adventure, comfort, or serenity, this estate offers everything you need for a memorable stay in Mukteshwar.

Warm Welcome at The Chamomile Estate
Since we arrived at The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, in the evening, we went straight for high tea upon arrival. We enjoyed our tea in the beautiful lawn of the estate, surrounded by serene views and cool mountain air. My friends opted for the Kashmiri Kahwa, while I tried their signature Chamomile tea. It was such a warm and thoughtful welcome, setting the perfect tone for our stay. After that, we decided to unwind and relax in our rooms before coming out again later for dinner.
Why is The Chamomile Estate Resort so popular?
The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, has become one of the most popular boutique resorts in Uttarakhand for its perfect balance of luxury, nature, and tranquillity. Its stunning location, surrounded by pine forests and snow-clad Himalayan peaks, offers guests breathtaking views and fresh mountain air. What I really love about my stay here that the staff here is so attentive and helpful that every small requests we made were taken care of. We never heard no for an answer. The resort is known for its personalized hospitality — every meal of ours here was customized, whether it was the breakfast, lunch, dinner or even snacks and high tea. The very co-operative staff took care of even the smallest details to make us feel at home.

The management’s focus on sustainability and employing local talent creates a genuine connection with the region’s culture and people. Whether for couples, families, or solo travelers, The Chamomile Estate stands out as a serene, soul-soothing escape in the heart of the Kumaon hills.

My stay experience at The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar
My stay at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar was nothing short of exceptional. I was fortunate to get a Himalayan peak-facing room on the ground floor, which opened directly to a private patio and a lush garden. From my room’s large windows, I could admire the breathtaking views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Nanda Kot — a sight I never got tired of.
My friends, meanwhile, stayed in a lavish room on the first floor that featured a glass ceiling and a private balcony, allowing them to gaze at the stars at night and the sunlit peaks each morning. I was truly impressed by the attention to detail in every corner of the room. The luxury toiletries, complimentary fruit basket, freshly baked cookies, and RO water bottles instead of plastic reflected the estate’s thoughtful and eco-conscious approach.
The rooms, luggage racks, and bathrooms were all remarkably spacious, adding a touch of indulgence to the rustic charm of the surroundings. Every amenity was designed to ensure comfort without compromising the serene, nature-focused vibe of the estate. My stay at The Chamomile Estate felt less like a vacation and more like a soulful Himalayan retreat — calm, elegant, and deeply rejuvenating.

Rooms of The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar
Staying at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar is a treat in itself—and the rooms are a big part of why. Each of the seven rooms is designed around a unique tea-blend theme (for example: Lavender, Oolong, Jasmine, Buransh, Hibiscus, Sage, and Amaranth) which gives the space character and charm. What I noticed was that the décor and colour theme of each room was as per the flower it is named after. This makes every room unique and different from each other. How thoughtful is that! I am traveling solo since 2008 but I have never really stayed in a similar property earlier with such unique flower themes.

Which is the best room at The Chamomile Estate?
Let me break it down for you below so that you can choose as per your taste.

Lavender Room: The Glass Cabin Beauty!
Staying in the Lavender Room at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar was simply unforgettable. Spanning 575 sq ft, this luxurious suite comes with a king-size bed, a full-fledged dressing room, study desk and a standout feature — an ensuite glass cabin that allows you to literally sleep under the stars.
What makes the Lavender Room the best choice for me has everything to do with the glorious private sit-out area and bonus balcony. From the moment I stepped out onto the terrace, the crisp mountain air and panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks greeted me — and they stayed with me throughout my stay. The glass-sit-out is not only incredibly photogenic, capturing the dawn light and snow-clad mountains perfectly, but also offers a wonderful, private seating nook where you can chill with friends, enjoy a meal, read or write a book, listen to music, or even practise yoga or meditation.
On my first day, I spotted Somalian cats in this cabin from the balcony. The cats were the family members of a couple from Delhi. My friends Rahul, Sneha and their son moved to this room after they checked out the next day! The thoughtful amenities blew them away: the balcony invites early-morning tea, the glass roof cabin lets you stargaze without stepping outside, and the whole space is designed to unify comfort with nature. If you’re staying at The Chamomile Estate and want the ultimate room experience — this is it. I am just relived that my friends, who were banking on me for an incredible vacation, really loved this stay experience!

Jasmine Room
My friends Rahul, Sneha, and their son Bunny stayed in the Jasmine Room on the first day, which I consider as the second-best room at The Chamomile Estate after the famous Lavender Room. The Jasmine Room has two huge windows that make you feel as if you’re living in a wall-less accommodation, with uninterrupted views of the snow-capped Himalayan range stretching endlessly before you.
Every morning, the sunlight gently streamed in, illuminating the room with a warm golden glow. After the Delhi couple checked out the next day, they moved to the Lavender Room, which, in my opinion, is the best room and star of the property.
But the Jasmine Room itself is no less impressive—with 475 sq. ft. of space, a king-size bed, dressing room, and study desk, it’s perfect for a relaxed stay in Kumaon. The private outdoor seating offers a panoramic Himalayan view, making it ideal for guests who love scenic comfort and tranquil surroundings. We spent time outdoors, in the huge adjoining sit out area, enjoying great food and drinks, even as we kept a watch on Bunny playing inside the room.

Amaranth Room
I stayed in the Amaranth Room at The Chamomile Estate, which, in my opinion, is the third-best room on the property after the Lavender and Jasmine rooms. What I loved most was the exclusive access to a private patio, where I would sit every morning with a hot cup of tea, soaking in the breathtaking Himalayan views and the calm mountain breeze. My friends stayed right next door in the Jasmine Room, which made hanging out and coordinating our plans super convenient.
Spread across 475 sq. ft., the Amaranth Room is a spacious and tastefully designed haven that comfortably accommodates up to four guests. It comes with a king-size bed, sofa-cum-bed, dressing room, and a study desk, making it ideal for families or small groups. With amenities like air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, minibar, private outdoor seating, a 42-inch TV, and in-room tea and coffee maker, it blends comfort and elegance perfectly. The serene ambiance and Himalayan-facing patio truly make this room unforgettable. I explored other rooms also and they were equally good!

Lounge & the Retro Corner
Just as we were chilling in the cozy lounge of The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, basking in the warmth of the beautiful British-style indoor fireplace, Sneha suddenly spotted a charming little Retro Corner. Curious, we walked over—and to our delight, found a collection of old audio cassettes and a cassette player! It was such a nostalgic moment. I hadn’t seen one in years, and for Bunny, it was a first-time experience. We spent the evening flipping through cassettes, listening to timeless melodies from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Watching Bunny’s fascination as the tape whirred and the music began playing brought back so many memories. It’s rare to see such thoughtful vintage touches in modern properties, and that made it even more special. Can’t believe the 80s count as retro now—but well, nostalgia never goes out of style! From Lata Mangeshkar, Beatles and Elvis Presley to Roza, Deewana! Our favourite was the Hindi song: “Lag Ja Gale…..”. What a fun, heartwarming night this was.
This lounge area on ground floor is so cool, that on one night this is where we decided to have our dinner, while enjoying the bonfire and TV. It is very tastefully decorated. There is one lounge on the first floor as well, where you can sit and enjoy board games, read book, stare at beautiful views outside or chat with your loved ones.

The logo and nomenclature of The Chamomile Estate
The Chamomile Estate is christened after the tiny and delicate wild chamomile flowers that grow in abundance around the property. In fact, on one morning during the nature walk, local caretaker, Mr. Ramesh showed us plethora of lavender flowers and chamomile flowers in both pink and white colours, growing wildly everywhere around the property.
The logo of The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, beautifully capture the essence of calmness and mountain charm. The name “Chamomile” itself evokes serenity, wellness, and a sense of rejuvenation—just like the soothing chamomile flower that grows abundantly on the estate. Its delicate white and pink blossoms, known for their therapeutic properties, perfectly symbolize the peace and purity of this Himalayan retreat.
The logo, inspired by these flowers, reflects the estate’s philosophy of harmony with nature, slow living, and mindful luxury. Set amidst the dense pristine forests of Mukteshwar, The Chamomile Estate truly lives up to its name—an elegant blend of natural beauty, gentle hospitality, and understated sophistication.

The Travel Plan: My Itinerary of Mukteshwar, Nainital & Jim Corbett National Park
Below is the detailed itinerary which I planned and executed successfully:
Day 1: Arrival
On the first day, my friends flew in all the way from Mumbai. Since they arrived quite late at night, they stayed at a luxury hotel near my home. After dinner, they settled in and prepared for the next day’s journey.
Day 2: Delhi to Mukteshwar Ride
On the second day, after breakfast and checking out from the hotel, my friends picked me up in their car. Since we were traveling with a child, they had thoughtfully packed plenty of games, toys, and delicious homemade food from Mumbai to keep the little one entertained throughout the journey. The drive was so enjoyable that we didn’t even realize when seven hours had passed. Before reaching the resort, we took a short break at a roadside dhaba, where we enjoyed hot pakodis, steaming tea, and the ever-delightful pahado-wali Maggi.
After enjoying a relaxing high tea, we took a leisurely stroll around the property, soaking in the serene surroundings and talking sweet nothings at a memorable outdoor bonfire on what was a cold night. Later, we had a delicious North Indian dinner, after which we called it a night. And that’s how our Day 2 came to an end.

Day 3: Relaxing at property, picnic lunch and excursion to Nainital.
On Day 3, we woke up early in the morning and set out for a nature walk, village walk, and birdwatching excursion, guided by the resort’s local staff member, Mr. Ramesh. He helped us identify several bird species along with the region’s local flora and fauna. After returning, we enjoyed a sumptuous South Indian breakfast and then spent some time relaxing at the resort, taking in the beautiful views around us.
Later in the afternoon, we headed out for a picnic lunch organized in the forest. It was a delightful experience—but the one who enjoyed it the most was Bunny, who loved running around the wide-open spaces and exploring the new surroundings, so different from what we’re used to in Delhi and Mumbai.
Nainital Excursion: After lunch, we drove straight to Nainital, which is just about two hours from the property via Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal and Bhowali. There, we enjoyed a pleasant and breezy boat ride on the scenic Naini Lake, followed by some souvenir shopping at the charming stores along Mall Road. We also tried some delicious local food before heading back to the property. The evening began with another relaxing high tea, followed by a wonderful Kumaoni-style dinner. It was the perfect end to yet another beautiful day at the resort.

Movie under the stars: Day 3 was packed with activities, and here’s why. Before dinner, we gathered around a cozy bonfire in the first-floor courtyard, where a live movie screening was taking place. Along with the warmth of the fire, we enjoyed delicious snacks and comforting soups. We truly loved the experience—and even Bunny had a wonderful time. Watching a movie under the stars was one of the most unique and memorable travel experiences I’ve ever had. In fact, it was my first time enjoying something like this.

Later, we had our dinner beside an indoor bonfire, which made the evening even more special. It was a beautiful day overall, though a little bittersweet, as it was also our second-last day at the property.
Day 4: The Chamomile Estate to The Golden Tusk
On the fourth and final day, I felt quite sad to be leaving the property, as we had truly loved our time there. In the morning, we took a leisurely stroll around the estate, enjoying the scenic views and chatting with some of the local people.
Afterwards, we had another hearty breakfast before checking out—but not without doing a fun photo shoot at some of the most photogenic spots around the property. Then, we set off for The Golden Tusk Resort in Jim Corbett National Park, where we spent a wonderful time exploring and enjoying the beautiful surroundings and evening safari in the offbeat Phato Zone.
Day 5 Back to Delhi
We checked out of Golden Tusk on the Day 5 after breakfast. We reached Delhi late and my friends flew back to Mumbai the next day!
Things to do around The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar
Here are some fantastic things to do around The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh (Mukteshwar) — perfect for nature lovers, wanderers, and those seeking a serene Himalayan escape:
Visit To Himalayan Viewpoint
Just a short walk from the estate, you’ll discover a viewpoint that opens out to sweeping vistas of the Himalayan range. That said, on a clear day, you can enjoy grand views of the Himalayan mountains right from your bed. Magical views of mighty Himalayan peaks of Uttarakhand state await you here, namely (from left to right) Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Trishul East ridge, Mrigthuni, Nanda Devi, Sunanda Devi, and Nanda Kot. The trails around Guniyalekh in the oak and deodar forests are peaceful, fresh, and perfect for a morning stroll or a quiet moment while breathing in mountain air.
Bhalu Gaad Waterfall Trek
Head out for a half-day excursion to the nearby Bhalu Gaad Waterfall, where a short forest trek leads you to a tranquil waterfall and a stream — ideal for a picnic or simply sitting in nature’s silence. The Chamomile Estate is located very close to this popular waterfall. Alternatively, you can enjoy a riverside picnic by the hills, an inclusive way to connect with the landscape. The property will arrange both experiences for you upon request.

River Picnic & Outdoor Forest Picnic by The Chamomile Estate
One of the things I loved most about The Chamomile Estate was the beautiful picnic brunch they arranged for us. It was set right in the middle of a forest, surrounded by tall oak and pine trees — an absolutely serene experience for any nature lover like me. As an outdoor enthusiast, I found it truly refreshing to be in such a peaceful natural setting. We also had a child with us — Bunny, the son of my friends Rahul and Sneha — and he especially enjoyed it. Kids in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, or Bangalore rarely get the chance to run around freely in such open, green spaces. Watching him play and explore amidst nature made the whole experience even more special for all of us.
If you wish to enjoy a picnic-style breakfast at The Chamomile Estate, they can curate a delightful spread for you — complete with freshly squeezed juices, assorted breads, cakes, croissants, and classic Indian breakfast favourites like poha, upma, and idli. It’s a perfect brunch-in-the-woods experience, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. For lunch, they take it a step further with a variety of dishes — from flavourful biryani and paneer delicacies to maybe also authentic Kumaoni cuisine.

You can enjoy it all as part of a charming outdoor picnic setup amidst the forest. I’m sure most of us haven’t experienced something like this in the past 20 or 30 years — so why not bring back the joy of old-school picnics? A big thanks to The Chamomile Estate for keeping this beautiful old school culture alive. And the best part? You’ll also get plenty of gorgeous, Insta-worthy photos — just like the ones I’ve shared on this blog.
Picnic Lunch by the River
And here’s a little secret — besides the forest picnic, The Chamomile Estate can also arrange a lavish breakfast or lunch by the river, just a few minutes’ drive from the property. The setting is breathtakingly beautiful, with the gentle sound of flowing water and the surrounding greenery creating a picture-perfect scene. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you for a very long time, simply because moments like these are so rare in the hustle and bustle of big metro cities.
So, if you’re visiting The Chamomile Estate, don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a picnic — whether in the serene forest or by the tranquil riverside. It’s truly one of the most memorable experiences you can have here. Bunny even enjoyed playing with Ball with the local staff. So, finally kids are kids again and not wasting time on screens. What’s not to love?

Picnic for Pet parents at The Chamomile Estate
As I mentioned above, kids absolutely love this experience — but what many people don’t realize is that it’s equally wonderful for pet parents. In metro cities across India, cats and dogs usually live in confined apartments and rarely get the chance to run free, play in open spaces, or splash around in rivers. At The Chamomile Estate, however, they can! The property offers the perfect opportunity for your furry companions to enjoy nature just as much as you do. They can roam around, explore, and be their playful selves while you relax and enjoy a scenic picnic. So, if you’re a pet parent who truly loves your four-legged friend, this is one experience you and your pet are both going to cherish.

Birdwatching in Mukteshwar around The Chamomile Estate
If nature in its gentler form is your preference, Mukteshwar is ideal for bird-watching — expect to see sunbirds, woodpeckers and other Himalayan Forest birds while you wander through the greenery. One of my favourite experiences at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, near Mukteshwar, was waking up early and heading out for birdwatching. The soft morning light, the crisp mountain air, and the sound of rustling leaves made it an unforgettable start to the day.
As I walked along the quiet trails around the estate with Ramesh ji, I spotted a variety of local Himalayan birds — from the vibrant Himalayan Blue-tail and Verditer Flycatcher to the cheerful Grey-headed Canary Flycatcher, Green-backed Tit, Russet Sparrow, and Black-lored Tit. The woods also echoed with the calls of Hill Partridges, Laughing Thrushes, and Bar-tailed Treecreepers. Ramesh ji showed me plenty of Red-billed blue magpies, right outside the property. I saw several Red-billed blue magpies in Champawat as well, also in Uttarakhand near the Indo-Nepal border.

This experience instantly took me back to my birdwatching trip in the nearby Shitlakhet and Sattal, where I had photographed some truly exotic species such as the Rufous-bellied Niltava, Blue-fronted Redstart, Slaty-headed Parakeet, and the elusive Khalij Pheasant. Both Sattal and Mukteshwar lie within the same rich birding belt of the Kumaon Himalayas, making this region a paradise for birdwatchers like me.
What I truly love about birding here is the diversity and purity of the avian life. Unlike cities where pigeons and crows dominate every skyline, the forests around Mukteshwar are home to a colourful variety of Himalayan species. Every walk reveals a new surprise — a flash of blue darting through the oaks or a melodic whistle from a pine branch. For anyone who enjoys observing birds in their natural habitat, the area around The Chamomile Estate is pure bliss — serene, unspoiled, and teeming with life.

The extraordinary bonfire in The Chamomile Estate, Mukteshwar
It was the last week of October when I visited The Chamomile Estate. The balmy winter sun made the afternoons pleasantly warm — perfect for lounging on the grass — while the nights turned beautifully chilly. To beat the evening chill, the staff treated us to bonfires at multiple spots around the property. That’s one of the things I love most about The Chamomile Estate — you’re not restricted to just one designated bonfire area; you can enjoy it in different spaces across the estate.
On the first evening, we had our bonfire in the garden area. The staff promptly set up a large, portable bonfire, which could be moved anywhere on request. I particularly enjoyed this open-air bonfire — the ambience was magical, and I anyways find the crisp mountain air far more rejuvenating than sitting indoors. We relished our snacks by the warm fire under the starlit sky, and it was truly an unforgettable start to our stay.
Later that night, we experienced an indoor bonfire arranged in the luxurious British-style fireplace inside the estate’s cozy lobby. It reminded me of the old colonial homes built in the mountains during the British era — complete with warmth, character, and charm. The space felt incredibly inviting — one corner played old retro music, another had a TV, and there were board games to enjoy with friends. We even had the option to dine by the fireplace, soaking in the warmth without worrying about the mist or dew outside.

On the second day, we enjoyed yet another bonfire, this time on the first floor, right outside our glass-ceiling room. It was one of the coolest experiences — sitting by the fire with panoramic views and the night sky above. The evening included board games, team-building activities, an open-air movie screening, and piping-hot snacks like Gahat Dal Soup. What’s not to love?
Honestly, this was one of the most memorable experiences of my stay. Enjoying bonfires at different spots around the property made each evening feel new and special. I’d highly recommend it — it’s truly one of the most delightful aspects of The Chamomile Estate in Mukteshwar.
Live Al Fresco Movie in The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar
On the last night of our stay at The Chamomile Estate, we were treated to a delightful surprise — a live alfresco movie experience set up in the open-air courtyard on the first floor. A large screen had been arranged under the stars, where we watched Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, followed later by Peppa Pig for the little Bunny. Both screenings were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
The setup was right outside our glass-ceiling room, so all we had to do was step out of the room and sink into the cozy atmosphere. As the evening turned cooler, we were served steaming hot Gahat Dal soup and a variety of snacks while enjoying the film. A warm bonfire crackled at the center of the courtyard, adding to the charm of the night.
The experience didn’t end there — after the movie, we played fun games, took part in team-building activities, and even enjoyed a lively karaoke session following a lavish Kumaoni dinner. It was the perfect way to wrap up our stay — full of warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Watching a movie under the stars was truly one of the most delightful and unexpected highlights of our stay at The Chamomile Estate. I had never experienced anything like it before, and it felt magical to sit beneath the open sky, surrounded by nature, enjoying a film in such a serene setting. I genuinely appreciate the effort the staff put into making our stay so memorable and unique — every little detail was thoughtfully planned. It wasn’t just us who enjoyed it; even Bunny had a wonderful time and absolutely loved the whole experience. Moments like these make The Chamomile Estate truly special.

Writer’s Retreat at The Chamomile Estate
Did you know that the famous writer Yann Martel actually moved to Matheran in Maharashtra for several months to write his iconic novel The Life of Pi? Or that Bollywood director Karan Johar often isolates himself in a cozy New York apartment whenever he’s penning the script of his next film? That’s the thing about writers — they need silence, solitude, good food, and fresh air to truly create something magical that last for years.
And that’s exactly what The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, offers in abundance. Nestled amidst the unspoiled beauty of the Kumaon hills, The Chamomile Estate is the kind of place that naturally inspires creativity. Far away from the touristy chaos, this peaceful hideaway gives you the quietude every writer dreams of — the kind where thoughts flow freely, words find their rhythm, and stories come alive. Whether you’re writing a book, a screenplay, poetry, or simply journaling, the setting here nurtures your imagination in the most organic way.
In fact, I also visited homes of Indian writers Rabindranath Tagore and Mahadevi Verma in the nearby Ramgarh. Read about it on my blog titled: Best things to do in Mukteshwar.
The property itself is perfect for writers’ retreats, writing workshops, and literary residencies. Imagine spending your mornings sipping tea while overlooking the mountains, your afternoons writing under a warm winter sun, and your evenings by the bonfire discussing ideas with fellow writers. The estate provides not just a comfortable stay but also wholesome nutritious home-cooked local meals, panoramic views, and pure mountain air — all the ingredients a writer needs to feel grounded and inspired.
And if you’re an individual writer looking for solitude, you can simply hole up in one of the cozy rooms for weeks or even months, working on your next big project at your own pace. With such peace, beauty, and comfort surrounding you, it’s almost impossible not to write. Truly, The Chamomile Estate is a writer’s paradise — a place where words breathe, ideas blossom, and creativity thrives. The writer in me approves!

Cycling near The Chamomile Estate, Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar
Although The Chamomile Estate doesn’t currently offer bicycles on the property, it’s definitely worth asking the management if they can help you arrange one — because cycling around Guniyalekh and Mukteshwar is an experience you wouldn’t want to miss. The winding mountain roads, fresh pine-scented air, and panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks make every turn a delight. I had once cycled in Thimphu in West Bhutan and it was a lovely, immersive experience!
You’ll pass through quiet villages, apple orchards, rhododendron forests, and terraced fields that glow golden under the morning sun. Cycling here isn’t just a workout — it’s a sensory experience filled with surprises, like spotting colorful birds, meeting friendly locals, or stumbling upon a hidden viewpoint. The roads are relatively smooth with light traffic, making them safe for leisure rides. For nature lovers and adventure seekers alike, cycling around The Chamomile Estate is one of the most refreshing ways to explore the untamed raw beauty of Mukteshwar.
Kid Zone at The Chamomile Estate
During my stay at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, one of the most heartwarming sights was watching Bunny, the adorable son of my friends Rahul and Sneha, having the time of his life at the resort’s Kid Zone. The estate is not only a haven for nature lovers and couples but also an absolute delight for families traveling with children. The Kid Zone here is thoughtfully designed to keep children of all ages engaged, active, and happy. Some of the facilities at Kids Play Zone include: Ball Pit, Storybooks, Arts & Crafts Activities.
Bunny spent hours exploring the vibrant play area, which includes several games and activities that kept him entertained and physically active. The open lawns allowed Bunny to run freely in the fresh mountain air, playing games like football, badminton, and frisbee, while the staff often organized fun treasure hunts and nature walks specially curated for younger guests.
What I particularly loved was how safe and well-maintained the play zone was. The management ensures that children can play independently while parents relax and enjoy the serene views of the Himalayas. Bunny also joined a few art and craft sessions, where he painted pebbles, drew mountain scenes, and made small souvenirs to take home — all under friendly supervision.

Village Walk around The Chamomile Estate
For immersing in local culture, go on a village trek, like I and Rahul did. Take time to explore nearby village paths, interact with locals, visit an orchard, observe architecture of an authentic Pahadi house, or spend time in a small farm, and even drop by the quaint Kilmora Shop for handmade woollens and organic produce. It’s a lovely way to combine a gentle walk with cultural discovery.

Nature Walk around The Chamomile Estate
One of the most enriching experiences during my stay at The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar was the nature walk led by the local manager, Mr. Ramesh. Early in the morning, as the mist hung low over the mountains, he guided me and Rahul through the forest trails surrounding the estate — and what unfolded was a fascinating lesson in nature’s design.
Mr. Ramesh is a local person and has spent years exploring these hills, and his deep knowledge of the local flora made the walk truly captivating. He showed us the majestic oak trees, explaining how their roots play a crucial role in maintaining the constant flow of natural spring water, which is then channelled through pipes and stored in tanks for the daily use.
We also learned about the tall pine forests and how they differ from oaks in terms of soil enrichment and water retention. The rhododendron trees, with their fiery red blooms, adds splashes of colour to the green landscape every spring. He also pointed out patches of fragrant purple lavender, and then, to my delight, showed us the delicate chamomile flowers — tiny white and pink blooms after which the estate is named. Their subtle fragrance and healing properties make them a local treasure.
Along the way, we discovered wild spinach, several types of ferns, and even different varieties of bamboo, each with unique patterns and textures that Mr. Ramesh explained in detail. By the end of the walk, I felt more connected to the land than ever before. What began as a simple stroll turned into a journey of discovery — one that deepened my appreciation for Mukteshwar’s rich ecosystem and the mindful way in which The Chamomile Estate preserves and celebrates it.
Relaxation at the Estate
Don’t forget — some of the best moments happen right at the estate. Whether it’s a bonfire under the starlit sky, an open-air movie night, or simply relaxing on your balcony with tea and the Himalayas spread out before you, it’s all part of the charm of staying at The Chamomile Estate.
Meeting the local people of Mukteshwar
During my walks around The Chamomile Estate in Guniyalekh, Mukteshwar, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with the local people of Mukteshwar. Warm, humble, and deeply connected to their roots, the pahadi folks welcomed me with genuine smiles and endless stories about their land. As we walked through narrow trails lined with pine trees and terraced farms, they shared how life unfolds in the mountains — simple yet rich in tradition and community spirit.
I was particularly fascinated by the local architecture of the Kumaon region. The stone houses with wooden roofs, intricately carved doors, and slate tiles are designed to withstand the mountain weather while blending beautifully with nature. Many homes still use traditional methods of construction that keep interiors warm in winter and cool in summer.
The locals also spoke about their farming practices, seasonal festivals, and the importance of livestock in their daily lives. Some women were busy drying grains on the rooftops, while elders sat in courtyards sipping tea and chatting — scenes that perfectly capture the essence of pahadi life. These interactions made me appreciate the authentic culture of Uttarakhand, where simplicity, sustainability, and strong community bonds form the backbone of daily living.

There’s absolutely no noise — no honking cars, no chaos — just the soothing sounds of birds, rustling leaves, and the occasional mountain breeze.
Each morning, I loved stepping onto the open lawns or the terrace overlooking the distant snow-capped peaks to practice yoga. The surroundings are so clean and peaceful that it feels natural to sink into deep meditation. The weather here stays pleasant for most of the year, which makes it comfortable to practice outdoors — especially during sunrise and sunset when the sky paints magical hues.

Enjoy Local Food of Kumaun
On the first night of my stay, I enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring Kadhai Paneer (cottage cheese curry) and Dal Makhani (creamy lentil curry) served with Garlic Naan, Butter Roti, and Lachha Paratha. It was honestly one of the best Kadhai Paneer and Dal Makhani I’ve ever tasted — rich in flavor and perfectly cooked.
The next evening was even more special, as I got to savour the authentic Kumaoni cuisine — a rare treat available only in this region. On that cold, chilly night, the warm, wholesome food felt especially comforting. Every dish was packed with flavor, nutrition, and a sense of homely goodness.
The Kumaoni-style dinner at The Chamomile Estate was an absolute culinary delight and one of the most memorable meals of my entire trip in this region. The spread beautifully reflected the essence of traditional Kumaon cuisine, made with locally sourced ingredients and age-old recipes. We were served comforting dishes like Bhat ki Chudkani, Gahat ki Daal, and Aloo ke Gutkhe, along with a variety of local saag (greens), steamed rice, and Manduwe (ragi) ki roti — all bursting with earthy flavors.

The tangy Nimbu Saan and nutty Bhaang ki Chutney added a zesty kick to the meal, while Mooli ka Thechwani, local mustard raita, and homemade salads and pickles brought in refreshing contrasts. The dinner concluded with a sweet surprise — a traditional Kumaoni-style Malpua, which I tried for the first time, followed by warm Gulab Jamuns. It was an unforgettable evening celebrating the authentic tastes of Uttarakhand.
After dinner, I went for a short post-prandial walk in the sprawling lawns of the property, and the best part was that I didn’t feel heavy at all. The meal felt light yet deeply satisfying — truly soul-nourishing. I would happily return to The Chamomile Estate just to relive this incredible culinary experience.

On other days, I indulged in crisp masala dosas, soft idlis, uttapams, and crunchy mendu vadas — each reminding me of authentic South Indian flavours. There was also freshly toasted bread with a selection of local artisanal jams, seasonal cut fruits, and an array of beverages to choose from — fresh watermelon juice, aromatic kahwa, filter coffee, and of course, chai.
Breakfast here wasn’t just a meal — it was an experience filled with warmth, flavor, and the joy of being personally cared for. Sitting in the open dining area, overlooking the misty Himalayas while enjoying a wholesome, home-style vegetarian breakfast, made every morning at The Chamomile Estate truly unforgettable.
