My Experience of visiting Assi Ghat Banaras
People often ask me, “Which is the best ghat in India?”. From my personal experience, I feel Assi Ghat is one of the best ghats in India. I love the vibrancy and character of the Assi Ghat area the most. A mix of western and eastern sensibilities, Assi Ghat is one of the most unusual places to visit in Varanasi.
Every time I am in Varanasi, I have always stayed in and around Assi Ghat because of various reasons. I love Assi Ghat’s laidback pace of life, especially on a balmy winter afternoon. The low-cost of rooms around Assi Ghat, even in the peak season also make it one of my favorite places to stay. Thanks to a large number of western tourists who live in Assi Ghat, I am also able to eat world-class Italian and continental food at some of its iconic cafes and restaurants.
Why I also love Assi Ghat is that it is not as crowded and noisy as the other ghats of Kashi. Assi Ghat also have better access for vehicles. So, when I travelled to Assi Ghat with my uncle and aunty, I chose to stay in Assi Ghat because of easy parking accessibility (we had a car with us) and the ability to quickly reach Assi Ghat on foot for the morning and evening aarti ceremonies.

On special occasion and Hindu festivals such as Probodhoni Ekadashi and Makar Sakranti, devotees take a holy dip at Assi Ghat in large numbers.
In the ancient Hindu scripture Kashi Khand, Assi Ghat is clearly mentioned as Assi “Saimbeda Tirtha”. This implies that the person who take a holy dip at the Assi Ghat at least once in his lifetime will earn the punya of all the Tirthas (pilgrimages) combined together. Having a bath here also gets one rid of all the sins committed in the past. People also take bath in the Ganga River here before the commence any pooja or rituals.
I have been told that taking a holy dip at Assi Ghat is akin to taking a holy dip in thousands of other holy rivers.
Faith and science are constant companions in Varanasi. Most of these Hindu festivals are highly backed by science as they fall on celestial events such as lunar eclipse or solar eclipse.

Visit the nearby Tulsi Ghat
On which Ghat of Varanasi Tulsidas died? Great Hindu poet Tulsidas lived in the nearby Tulsi Ghat in 16th century and wrote the world-famous Ramcharitmanas and Hanuman Chalisa. Till I visited Varanasi, I didn’t know that Tulsidas had left for his heavenly abode at Assi Ghat Kashi.
Did you know that the Tulsi Ghat was known as Lolarka Ghat earlier? Tulsi Ghat has remained one of the major sightseeing attractions near Assi Ghat Varanasi since times immemorial. Do not forget to explore the must-visit attractions of Tulsi Ghat near Assi Ghat.
Visit Hanuman Ghat
I was wondering why everyone was selling idli and masala dosa in not only road side carts but also in cafes and restaurants. A large community from South of India live in Hanuman Ghat. The South Indian community has also built a new temple here.
Hanuman Ghat is also famous because the fifteenth-century Vaishnavite saint Vallabha was born here. It was he who played a role in the resurgence of the worship of Krishna Bhagwan. In fact, there is one more reason why Hanuman Ghat is so pious. You can also worship an unusual image of Ruru, the dog Bhairava, who is a ferocious and early form of Bhagwan Shiva. Do not miss paying respects to Sri Ruru Bhairav.
Hanuman Ghat is located very close to the Assi Ghat. Other nearby ghats are Ganga Mahal Ghat and Ravidas Ghat. Hanuman Ghat is the top place to see around Assi Ghat.
Visit Lolark Kund
Lolark Kund is off the touristy trail. But those who know about this hidden gem near Assi Ghat, love spending time here. Lolark Kund is a very unusual place to see in Varanasi. I am sure you had no idea that it existed till you read this blog. Lolark Kund is a rectangular water tank which is dug at least 15 meters below the ground level. The steps here are very steep, therefore you must be careful while going up and down the stairs. Mostly, you will not see many tourists here due to lack of awareness.
The usually abandoned water tank is abuzz with activity during the Lolarka Fair in August or September. This is when hordes of devotees worship Gods in the hope of the birth of a son. Not many people know that Lolark Kund is one of the oldest sites of Varanasi which still remains. It is, in fact one of the only 2 Sun sites which still exist. This place is associated with the origins of Hinduism. Even during the times of Gautam Buddha, people used to take bath here.
Much before the revered deities of Hinduism as we know today, 12 Aditya or 12 divisions of Sun were worshipped here. That makes it one of the most important places to see in Assi Ghat Banaras. Lolark Kund is a mus-see place near Assi Ghat, Varanasi. The Assi Ghat neighborhood is full of such hidden gems which are off the touristy trails.
Visit Tulsi Akhada in Assi Ghat
Do not miss an Akhada or wrestling match at Tulsi Ghat which is located close to the Assi Ghat. I visited the Tulsi Akhada early morning and observed not only the kushti (wrestling) match but also the daily routine of the desi pahalwan aka wrestlers. The wrestlers here spend all their life mastering wrestling, Indian style. The wrestlers are friendly and open to a chit-chat with you if you show interest. Visiting the Tulsi Akhada is one of the best immersive experiences which you can have in Varanasi. It is one of the most unusual things to do in Assi Ghat Benaras.

Take a boat ride from Assi Ghat
Assi Ghat Boat Ride and Cruise is one of the top things to do in Varanasi. Morning boat ride in Assi Ghat, Varanasi is an experience like no other. I have taken boat rides so many times in Varanasi that I can vouch that you will want to repeat the experience the next morning. Varanasi Ganga aarti boat booking can be done online, with a tour operator or directly from the boatman, like I always do. Just like me, most of the foreign tourists prefer to travel in the open boat without engines. But they cost more of course, due to the labor involved.
Soul Window Preferences
You can choose if you want to hire a manually driven boat or an engine boat. Personally, I avoid boats, the engine of which make noise. I also do not like boats which are covered on top as it hinders the views and the access of the noisy black headed gulls.
Below are some of the poplar routes from Assi Ghat Banaras:
- Assi Ghat to Lalita Ghat by boat
- Assi Ghat to Manikarnika Ghat by boat
- Assi Ghat to Dasaswamedh Ghat by boat
- Assi Ghat to Kashi Vishwanath Corridor by boat
What is the Assi Ghat Boating time? You can hire a boatman for a private boat ride from any time between dawn to dusk. Shared boats are also available from Assi Ghat for several other ghats of Kashi from morning to evening or sunrise to sunset. What’s more, I have also taken a boat ride from Assi Ghat in night.
Is boating open in Assi Ghat Varanasi today? Yes, boating in Assi Ghat is open every day, including the major festivals, public holidays and Sundays.
Sunbathe at Assi Ghat
Winter is when most tourists arrive in Varanasi. It is a pleasure to sit and soak the sun in winters at the steps of Assi Ghat which lead to Ganga River. The peaceful and clean environment of Assi Ghat only adds to the experience!
Visit Ramnagar Fort and Vishwa Sundari Pul

Cross the Ganga River and reach sand banks
You can also hire a boat to cross over to the other side and explore the quitter and uncrowded sand banks.
Get an Ayurveda massage done
Not many know that but there are some very nice Ayurveda massage centers at walking distance from the Assi Ghat. When I was walking around the back lanes of Assi Ghat, I noticed many such massage centers with trained masseurs. All the walking around in Varanasi sure calls for a relaxing Ayurveda massage!
Hot Air Balloon at Assi Ghat Varanasi
You must book the Hot Air Balloon ride at the Assi Ghat if you want to enjoy the aerial view of the mighty Ganga River, sand banks and the revered 84 ghats of Kashi.
Assi Ghat at night
Assi Ghat at night is an experience itself. I have spent hours sitting idly at the Assi Ghat at night and watching life pass by. Merely sitting at the steps of the Assi Ghat calms my mind, body and soul! Sitting at Assi Ghat in night is my top favorite thing to do in Varanasi. The beautiful lighting is cherry on the cake!
Subah-E-Banaras: Morning Aarti of Assi Ghat
Which ghat is best for Ganga Aarti? Which ghat is famous for aarti? These are some commonly asked questions. This is why I decided to write this comprehensive travel guide to Assi Ghat. This is the biggest guide on Assi Ghat which you will find on the internet. Even the old school guidebooks and travel magazines do not have so much detailed information on Assi Ghat.
Assi Ghat of Varanasi apart from the holy Dashashwamedh Ghat is very popular for aarti in Varanasi. Many will agree that one of the best times to visit Assi ghat is at dawn, just before the sunrise to attend the morning aarti, which is known as Subah E Benares.
Every time I am in Varanasi, I make sure that I attend the morning aarti at Assi Ghat, which is known as Subah-E-Banaras. Ever since the Uttar Pradesh Government introduced the early morning aarti at Assi Ghat, it has remained one of the best experiences that this ancient city has to offer.
Through the aarti, respects are paid to Maa Ganga, the holiest river of Hindus. No one respects and worships the grandeur of nature, the way Hindus do it! The morning Vedic chanting by the girls is not to be missed! A Vedic Yagya is also performed at a designated place, also on Assi Ghat. Tribute to the five elements of life, called as Pancha Tattva in Hindi are given. Kriya Yoga is also a part of the event.
Rows of young men clad in their sartorial best, perform the early morning aarti with complete devotion and concentration.
Do bring along some small change in Indian rupees with you and donate, maybe around INR 100-200 or so to the men who walk around with an offering tray and a bowl of tilak powder which he will apply at your forehead. It is also a way to connect with the local culture.
Timings of morning aarti at Assi Ghat
What is time of Ganga Aarti in Assi Ghat? Here is a guide to Assi Ghat morning aarti time.
The spiritual aarti is performed every day before dawn or sunrise. People wake up as early as 4:30 a.m. to get ready for the 5:30 a.m. morning aarti of Assi Ghat. Since the morning aarti happens when it is still dark outside, I advise you to prepare accordingly. However, proper street lighting is present all around Assi Ghat.
What is time of Ganga Aarti in Assi Ghat? The early morning aarti of Assi Ghat starts sharp at 5:30 a.m. I always ensure to reach a bit early so that I do not miss the beginning. If you reach early, you can spend the time in people watching, photography, videography or sipping the delicious kulhad chai, lassi, coffee or lemon tea available in Assi Ghat.
Soul Window Travel tip
Since I always book a hotel or hostel in Varanasi at walking distance from Assi Ghat, so I am able to wake up at 5 a.m. and leave the hotel or hostel by 5:15 a.m. and walk to the aarti venue of Assi Ghat before the clock strikes even 5:30 a.m. This is why I recommend booking a hotel in Assi Ghat because this is one of the few popular activities to do in Varanasi.
Duration of Subah-E-Banaras
How long does the morning aarti at Assi Ghat last? Well, overall, it took me around 2 hours to witness the entire aarti. I reached 15 minutes early to see the preparations going on in full swing. I advise you that if you want to sit and chai and watch it, then reach early so that you can secure the best seats.
My mausa and mausi (maternal uncle and aunt) were traveling from U.S.A. It is very rare that they get an opportunity to witness something like this. I requested the authorities for a V.I.P. seat and he happily arranged the front seat for them. However, personally, I preferred standing at a corner and watching the aarti.
The best part is that there is no entry fee to attend the evening or the morning aarti of Assi Ghat. You can also grab a seat without paying anything. Attending the aarti is one of the best free things to do in Assi Ghat.
Music Show at Subah-E-Banaras of Assi Ghat
My Mausa ji (maternal uncle), who is an excellent table player himself, loves classical music. After the morning aarti known as Subah-e-Banaras, he stayed back to listen to the musical performances at the Assi Ghat. Musical programs of various disciplines are hosted here every morning where trained music students and teachers perform to the mesmerized audience. The serene Assi Ghat is enlivened with these world-class performances.
Attending the morning raga and performance of Indian classical and semi classical music by expert local artists is one of the top Varanasi experiences!
The best part is that you can listen to these world class performances without paying anything. Yes, there is no ticket to these performances. It is a free thing to do in Varanasi.
Yoga at Assi Ghat after morning aarti Subah-E-Banaras
I was impressed to see so many people performing various poses and forms of Yoga, right on the Assi Ghat after the morning aarti got over. An instructor guides a large crowd of people here every morning. People from all walks of life congregate at around 6-7 a.m. even in freezing cold winters of North India so that they can practice a form or two of the ancient forms of Yoga under the right guidance.
Whether it is Kapalbhati or Anulom Vilom or Bhramari Pranayama you want to practice, what place than the holy ghats of Varanasi? This is why every morning, men and women of all ages roll out their yoga mats and get practicing! What’s not to love? The best part is that these Yoga classes are a free thing to do in Assi Ghat. Yes, absolutely no fee is charged to learn Yoga at these open-air classes. There are so many such reasons which justify my love for Assi Ghat!
Evening aarti at Assi Ghat
Assi ghat is also very popular place to witness the evening aarti. Despite its popularity with a small segment of people, not many people know about it. The difference between the aarti of Assi Ghat and Dashashwamedh Ghat is that while the latter draws more crowd, the former attracts lesser people because of its location and lack of publicity.
The evening aartis I saw at Assi Ghat were no less than the evening aarti of Dashashwamedh Ghat. Both Dashashwamedh Ghat and Assi Ghat have two aartis happening at the same time. Well actually, the venue for second aarti in both the cases are located slightly away (walkable) from the respective ghats. This means that there is not one but several options where you can witness the evening aarti on the sacred ghats of Kashi.
The evening aarti at Assi Ghat takes place slightly away from where the morning aarti called as Subah-E-Banaras happens. I didn’t even know that area near Assi Ghat hosts several evening aartis as well. I was leisurely walking from Dashashwamedh Ghat to Assi Ghat when I stumbled upon these aartis as I approached Assi Ghat. This is why I decided to write this comprehensive guide to aarti in Varanasi so that more and more people are aware of it!
Assi Ghat evening aarti timings
Assi Ghat evening aarti timings remain the same every day.
Difference between aarti of Assi Ghat and Dashashwamedh Ghat
What is the main difference between aarti of Assi Ghat and Dashashwamedh Ghat? Assi Ghat and Dasaswamedh Ghat are as different in character as cheese and chalk. Whether you should visit Assi Ghat or Dasaswamedh Ghat is a commonly asked question. Well, why not visit both the ghats? Here is a detailed comparison between Assi Ghat and Dasaswamedh Ghat of Varanasi.
I personally enjoy watching evening aarti at the Assi Ghat over Dashashwamedh Ghat because there is less crowd and it is also easy to take pictures and videos. Whether it is the morning or evening aarti, each experience at both Assi Ghat as well as Dashashwamedh Ghat is unique. For example, the vedic ‘mangalacharan’ recital by girls of Panini Kanya Mahavidyalaya is also what makes Subah-E-Banaras so unique and different!
The view of the aarti is also better at Assi Ghat as I was able to make my way and stand in the first row, despite joining the aarti late. With less pushing and shoving and a better vantage point, aarti at Assi Ghat works for me better. Assi Ghat is also a great place if you want to show aarti to the elderly people. To summarize, Assi Ghat and Dasaswamedh Ghat are some of the most popular ghats of Varanasi and both merit a visit.
Soul Window Travel Tips
My Mausa and Mausi (maternal uncle and aunt), who are also NRIs were visiting from United States of America. I would rather take them to Assi Ghat rather than Dashashwamedh Ghat. I was also adamant that they stayed at Assi Ghat for better movement and easy car parking. Showing aarti to them at Assi Ghat makes more sense to me than taking them to the crowded aarti of Dashashwamedh Ghat.
That said, the aarti at the sacred Dashashwamedh Ghat is still the most grand and important ones. No wonder, so many people still attend it every single day. Apart from the spiritual significance, the mere fact that popular tourist places like Godowlia, Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Corridor and Kashi Chat Bhandar are located closer to Dashashwamedh Ghat makes aarti here so crowded. By the way, the moment aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat ends, crowds disburses and ghat becomes less crowded. This is when you can stroll around this ghat peacefully in evening.

Respect
Do not stand in front of the Ganga Aarti of Assi ghat, whether in morning or evening. It is highly discouraged by the local priests and authorities. I mistakenly did that and I was rebuked by the local authorities who was part of the team that organizes aarti at Assi Ghat. I apologized and watched the aarti from side.

- Keep right and you will see a man frying puris. This is it
- The color of bhaji (potato curry) should be black. Confirm it before ordering.
I enjoyed the Sabzi, Puri and Jalebi at the crowded Sri Ram Bhandar on many of my visits to Assi Ghat Varanasi. I love the taste of their black potato curry. So, in case you are unable to find the above shop I mentioned, you can easily come here as it can be found in Google Maps.
Due to a large number of Tamilians and other people from Southern India who live around the Hanuman Ghat, I noticed lot of shops which sell South Indian food such as Uttapam, Masala Dosa, Mendu Vada and Idli. I was always on the move and wanted a quick bite, so I used to grab a quick plate of idlis from the road side carts.
The idlis here are delicious (if not divine) and very cheap. I love that they pour roasted rai (mustard seeds) above the idli before serving. It is a very unique style which I haven’t seen during my travels in South India either. The white chutney they serve is delicious and I avoid sambhar as it spoils the taste.
And of course, the shopkeepers are shocked and smile at me when I request for that fried red chilly and curry leaves in the chutney. Most people discard it. They also serve fried idli, which I didn’t order as I am a purist when it comes to food and like my things classic and simple.
While walking on Assi Ghat, I also had free khichdi which was being distributed as prasad. It is a misconception that only Sikhs from the Punjab region of India run langar or free community lunch. Hindus also offer such services free of cost and call it Bhandara. It is just not as well marketed. The khichdi here was so delicious that I was tempted to have more.
On another trip, I also had local breakfast at Theth Banaras. They sell kachori, chana ghughri, poori sabzi and jalebi etc. It is located near C.M. Anglo Bengali College at Bhelupur Jal Nigam Trimuhani. In evening they sell golgappa, chola sohal chaat, dahi-poori, samosa chola, palak chat, gulab jamun, alu kulcha, paneer kulcha, aalu tikki etc.
Wood fired pizzas & apple pies at Pizzeria Vaatika café
One of the most famous places to eat in Assi Ghat is the Pizzeria Vaatika café. It is undisputedly the best café in Assi Ghat. I took along my mausa and mausi (paternal uncle and aunt) and even they enjoyed the taste of the very popular wood fired pizzas here. Though, I am sure they have had the best pizzas in U.S.A. where they live but they still loved the pizzas at Vaatika café of Assi Ghat.
Vaatika café is It is one of the best restaurants in Assi Ghat. The calzone (folded pizza) and Apple Pie here are also lip-smacking! The gorgeous views of Maa Ganga from here also add to the experience! Vaatika Café is one of the best rooftop restaurants in Varanasi.
I had ordered
- Olive, jalapeno and mushroom pizza
- Onion, garlic and mushroom pizza
- Apple pie
The portion size is very good here. This was sufficient for 3 of us, all adults.
Opened in the year, 1992, there is almost always a waiting line at the Pizzeria Vaatika café. They claim to be the first pizzeria of India. There is also a book store nearby. Do check it out!

Sweets
For sweets, try to find Laung Latta at a local sweet shop near Assi Ghat. Drowned in sugar syrup and filled with dry fruits and khoya, I can’t resist eating this sweet every time I visit Varanasi. A different version of Launga Latta is also popular in Kolkata in West Bengal and Guwahati in Assam in North East India.

Souvenirs Shopping Guide to Assi Ghat
There are several souvenir shops at Assi Ghat neighborhood. I saw some shops selling the famous wooden toys and art pieces, right next to the Assi Ghat. We had also packed 2 dozen of launga latta, a local sweet as food souvenirs to share with friends and family back home. Take special care to pack it because the sticky and thick sugar syrup had escaped even the polythene bag and fell on my jeans which I had to wash later. We then triple wrapped it in plastic and kept in the dickey of the car.
You can also buy containers at Assi Ghat for cheap if you want to pack the holy Gangajal (water of Ganga River) for family back home.
Every day, so many Hindus pack water of Ganga River from Assi Ghat to take back home. I have myself done that and surprised to see that the water from the Ganga River never rots or becomes stale no matter how long you keep it in a bottle at home.
What currency is used in Assi Ghat, Banaras?
INR or Indian Rupee is widely accepted. Digital payment is also very popular at most shops and hotels. However, not all shops accept digital money. Most of the small shops still accept cash only.
American Dollars or USD is not accepted by even big hotels. My aunt and uncle stayed at a nice hotel near Assi Ghat and even they didn’t accept US Dollars as payment. This is why always carry INR in cash.

The local guides can help you show some hidden gems and lesser-known facts about Assi ghat. I noticed that most of the foreign tourists hire local English-speaking tourist guides with them to show them around the nook and crannies of not only Assi ghat but surrounding areas as well.
Languages spoken in Assi Ghat
Hindi and Bhojpuri are the most commonly spoken and understood languages of Varanasi. English is also spoken and understood by most people, especially those employed in the tourism sector.
On one of my trips, I travelled with a large group which included foreign travellers from Uzbekistan as well. I was surprised to see a local tourist guide who spoke fluent Uzbek language. Since Varansi is a major tourist magnet, therefore tourist guides who speak many Asian and European languages such as Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese etc are easily available at a reasonable fee.

Visiting Assi Ghat is very low cost. The only thing I spent in Assi Ghat as a backpacker were hotel room (very cheap), shared boat ride (also cheap) and the food off the street side food carts. I had delicious idlis at a street cart at a throw away price.

Books on Assi Ghat of Varanasi
If you want to get a deeper understanding of the culture of Assi Ghat, then bury your nose in the Hindi novel called as Kashi Ka Assi. It is written by Shri Kashinath Singh. The backdrop of this engaging novel is, of course the mohalla (colony) around the Assi ghat.
Movies on Assi Ghat of Varanasi
Women oriented Bollywood movies such as 2006 movie Banaras (Urmila Matondkar) and 2007 movie Laga Chunari me Daag (Rani Mukherjee) were set on the ghats of Varanasi if not exclusively Assi Ghat. The 2013 movie Raanjhana, also features Assi Ghat. Some scenes of the 2015 movie Masaan were also shot at the famous Pizzeria Vatika café of Assi Ghat.
The books are always better than the movie but if you want to enjoy both, then I recommend that you watch a Hindu movie called as Mohalla Assi. This Bollywood movie was released in the year 2018 and featured film actor Sunny Deol. Directed by Shri Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, Mohalla Assi is based in the mohalla or locality around the world-famous Assi Ghat. The movie is based on the above-mentioned book Kashi Ka Assi.

Some of the best hotels of Varanasi are located in the Assi Ghat area. Several luxury hotels, heritage havelis and even shoestring budget hotel options are easily available at walking distance from the Assi Ghat. Most hotels also allowed extra bed for a very small fee. Many hotels also have ambient roof top restaurants in Assi Ghat.
I stayed in the Tiwari Lodge Guest House which is located at walking distance from Assi Ghat. This a great accommodation for backpackers who are looking for a room near Assi Ghat. I was easily able to walk from this hotel to catch the morning aarti Subah-E-Banares. It is merely 5 minutes of walk away from Assi Ghat. Even in the peak winter, I was able to score a single room with common washroom here on the top floor. Their common balcony is also huge.
However, ensure that you carry your own lock. I used their lock and it was open when I returned. I had left my expensive DSLR camera and lenses apart from the usual clothes and toiletries etc. Luckily, nothing was stolen. But you may not get as lucky. I met some people in this lodge/hotel who had been staying here for some months and doing research. So, you can also hire a room here if you plan to stay in Varanasi for many weeks or months.
It is very basic; the mattresses may also look unhygienic but it is the best you can get for this price. Some hostels are also available nearby but since I prefer privacy of a room, so I always book a room in India.

What should I wear for Ganga Aarti? It is a religious and highly spiritual event. You must dress respectfully when attending the pious Ganga aarti. Just the way you will not wear a saree or pathan suit in a disco club, so avoid wearing revealing clothes when attending the morning and evening Ganga aarti.
Assi Ghat Before and After
I have visited Assi Ghat several times. I have noticed so many changes in the look feel of Assi Ghat over the years. Earlier there was no toilet here. The Assi Ghat also used to be dirty earlier. However, I have noticed that off late, Assi Ghat is far cleaner now though much is still required to be done. There are also proper signboards now. Another change which I noticed is that now you can also take shared boat ride from Assi Ghat to Shri Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. The new toilet and new restaurants and book stores right on the ghat are an added bonus. The before and after story of Assi Ghat impressed me.

Local Transport for sightseeing in Assi Ghat of Varanasi
There is no dearth of public transport around the Assi Ghat. From reserved and shared autorickshaws to battery e rickshaws and pedal rickshaws, you will be spoilt for choices. These local transports cost very less. Here is an insider tip. If you want to peacefully cover the distance between Assi Ghat and Godowlia market, pedal rickshaw are the best. Though, personally I just like to walk along the ghats if I have to reach somewhere nearby. For example, distance between Assi Ghat and Dashashwamedh Ghat is only 3 kilometers.
Assi Ghat parking
Ours was a road trip from Lucknow to Varanasi, therefore a car was always with us. We had a little trouble in parking the car right in front of our hotel near Assi Ghat. However, after dropping us, the driver was able to park for sometime near the hotel. But soon the authorities asked him to park elsewhere in the day.
In night, he was again allowed to park next to the hotel. It really depends on the location of the hotel which you have booked. I am saying so because the lanes and streets around Assi Ghat are very narrow and always jampacked with pedestrians and vehicles. It is even more congested at other ghats such as the most popular and sacred Dashashwamedh Ghat.
