5-Day Itinerary to Explore Kerala
This Monsoon with Kids
Kerala is a haven for family vacations given its varied landscape and list of things to do. Often called as ’God’s Own Country, ’Kerala’s tourism offerings flaunt the excitement and fun of the mountains, forests, and beaches. This is heightened during the monsoon season when the state blushes and blooms in the rains. It is the best time to explore the true beauty of Kerala.
If you are planning to visit this destination during this season with kids, here is a five-day itinerary for you to visit the major tourist places in Kerala.
Day one – Explore Fort Kochi
Begin your family holiday by showing your kids the culture and history of Kochi. Visit the Mattancherry Palace, which boasts the Portuguese-style architecture and a vibrant art gallery. Next, head to the Paradesi Synagogue to learn about the city’s Jewish heritage. Make some time to visit St. Francis church and click loads of pictures while saying a prayer or two. Fort Kochi is a super place to teach your kids about various cultures and religions.
Day two–Soak in Kochi’s art and culture
Make some time for a Kathakali performance where you and the kids will be regaled with the dancers’ various facial movements! If you are up for it, make some time for the Kerala Folklore Theatre and Museum.
Day three – Leaving Kochi for Munnar
Spend some time at Princess Street for last-minute thrift shopping, browsing through books, and sipping a cup of coffee at a quaint café. It also boasts lovely colonial buildings. It’s now time to say goodbye to Kochi and head out on a 131 km-drive to Munnar.
Day four-Discover Munnar
On this day, you will explore the tea hub of Munnar. As you enter the hill station, you and the kids will be enchanted by the beautiful tea plantations that will be gloriously green during the monsoons. Go for a tea plantation tour, sip a hot cuppa, and learn about the beverage’s history at the Tata Tea Museum. This day is reserved for tea escapades. Don’t forget to carry your camera and click lots of photographs of the lush scenery of this region!
Day five – Unearth secrets of the wild in Munnar
On this day, you can have a picnic by the Lakkam Waterfalls and even go on a wildlife tour at Eravikulam National Park and Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. That’s a good itinerary, but as I always say., Kerala, like Gujarat and some other places needs months together to explore well! Haha…
Done your day 4-5. Been on a day trip to Cochin. Yet to explore all.
That said I hope Kerala gets back to is form, hale & healthy, from it’s depths of floods!
This sounds like a perfect 5 day Kerala itinerary. The Kathakali dancer looks amazing. They put in so much efforts for all that makeover. Mattancherry Palace and Paradesi Synagogue sound quite interesting places. The greenery at the tea plantations is a sight to behold. Visiting the Lakkam Waterfalls and going for wildlife tours are the activities I would not want to miss.
My friend just convinced me to visit Kerala this November. It is such a wonderful city that needs to be discovered and shared with the world. Thank you for sharing this itinerary. Will go through it in details and see which ones we can add on our own.
Kerala sure looks beautiful! I never made it to that side of the India when I visited, but I have always hoped to return. Good to know it’s a good place to go during the monsoon! So much rain and water – I can imagine it would really make everything flourish and bloom beautifully.
It’s akeays nice to read about itenaries with kids and this one for 5 days in Kerala seems perfect. I would live to visit Kerala with my kids and show them this part of India. The Kathakali woukd surely be amazing for my daughter who loves dancing. The character Fort Kochi another one on my list to tick off. And to top it all the lovely monsoon. Thanks for a great post.
What a great 5 day itinerary for families to see Kerala. Each day and town has its own character and attraction. The tea plantations in Munnar sound really beautiful too.
I did Kerala trip when I was in 11th Grade but an elaborate one. But you have compiled all the gems of Kerala in 5 days which is good for first timers and those who have less time. Kochi and Munnar are my favorites too as Kochi have very different influences of various cultures and Munnar has beautiful green nature. I too recommend these places if you are having less time or going for first time.
This is exactly like the trip we did last year. I just missed out on Fort Kochi. I too loved the tea estates of Munnar the most. Amazing picture there too!
awesome camera skills u have.
Thanks a lot. 😊
